How to measure your pet's paw

With your pet's paw resting naturally, measure the longest length and widest width of the print you'd like to keep.

Rather than going by breed or weight, check that the paw fits comfortably inside the 4.7 × 6.3 in (12 × 16 cm) clay area.

Try it on paper first.

Draw a 4.7 × 6.3 in (12 × 16 cm) rectangle on a sheet of paper and compare it with your pet's paw. Planning to press two paws? Be sure to leave room between them.

Photos & display

There are two square photo windows, each 2.75 × 2.75 in (7 × 7 cm). Choose photos where your pet's face fits nicely inside the window. Photos are not included.

The frame can stand on a shelf or hang on the wall. Use the outer frame size as a guide when picking the perfect spot.

With a wooden frame and air-dry clay, you can display your pet's little paw print right alongside your favorite photos.

How to make it & before you start
  1. Knead the clay well and flatten it with the wooden stick.
  2. When your pet is calm, gently press their paw into the clay.
  3. Let it air-dry completely, then paint it any color you like.
  4. Place your photos and the paw print in the frame, and you're done.

No baking needed. See the included instructions for step-by-step details.

If your pet resists, never hold them down. Take a break and try again later.

Before pressing the paw
A thin layer of petroleum jelly (or a similar balm) on the paw pads helps keep clay from sticking. Choose a pet-safe product and don't use too much.

Never apply paint directly to paws. Use it only on the dried paw print. Keep the clay and paint away from your pet's mouth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are photos included?

Photos are not included, so you'll need to provide your own. Choosing a favorite expression or an everyday moment that really shows who your pet is can be part of the fun.

On the right side of the frame are two square photo windows, one above the other. Try two different expressions, or a puppy (or kitten) photo next to a recent one. Before setting your photos in place, print and trim them to fit the photo windows.

Does it work for both dogs and cats?

Yes, you can use it to keep paw prints from both dogs and cats. Every pet's paw size, and how comfortable they are having their paws touched, is a little different. Rather than going by breed or weight alone, please check that the paw print you want fits inside the clay area of the frame.

If your pet doesn't like having their paws handled, take it slow. Try in a spot where they usually feel relaxed, starting with just a few seconds at a time. Not sure about the size? Send us your pet's paw measurements before you order and we'll be happy to help.

I've never done this before. Can I still get a good paw print?

Follow the included instructions to flatten the clay, then gently support your pet's front paw to make the print. Laying out all your tools before you begin makes it easier to stay calm when it's time to press the paw.

For a clean print, place the paw pad-side down, let it touch the clay gently, and lift it straight up without sliding it sideways. Never twist the ankle, pull on your pet's body, or press down hard.

If your pet seems uncomfortable, take a break. And if the print comes out a little uneven, we hope you'll treasure it as part of the memory you made together.

When do I use the paint? Do I put it on the paw?

Never apply paint to your dog's or cat's paw. Use it only to color the clay print once it has dried completely.

Take a small amount of paint on the included brush and build up color little by little in the paw pad impressions. This keeps all the fine details of the print. Thin layers built up gradually work better than one thick coat.

You can also leave it unpainted and enjoy the natural look of the white clay. While painting and drying, work somewhere your pet can't touch or lick the paint or tools.

What's included in the kit?

The kit includes a keepsake frame, air-dry clay, paints and a brush, a wooden stick for flattening the clay, double-sided tape for mounting, and instructions. Please provide your own photos to display.

The frame measures 11.3 × 9.3 in (28.7 × 23.6 cm). The paw print goes in the tall space on the left, and your favorite photos go in the two windows on the right, so everything is displayed together.

When your order arrives, please check the contents before you start. If anything is missing or damaged, contact us with your order number and a photo of what you received.

What if my order arrives damaged or something is missing?

We're so sorry if your order arrives damaged or incomplete. Please contact our support team. To help us resolve it quickly, include your order number and a photo showing the damage or the items you received.

If the frame is cracked or broken, please don't remove or use it. Contact us and leave it as it is. We also ask that you keep the box and packaging until we've finished reviewing your request.
